Beverly Johnson‘s new memoir, The Face That Changed it All,   –written with contributions from Allison Samuels, and a forward by André Leon Talley—  revels Johnson‘s own discoveries of truth through-out her remarkable life and journey with engaging, candor and heart-honesty. TOTEM Creative’s Exhibition & Private Reception …

Welcome to DracoB.com‘s news & events coverage of this month’s exhibition, ‘The Reflected Eye.’ The work of photographer Anthony Barboza is currently being featured in TOTEM Creative‘s exhibition in collaboration with Dune Studios, a show specially curated by celebrated model agent, Patty Sicular.

In homage to over 50 years of the fashion industry’s most notable photographers, ‘The Reflected Eye’ reminds viewers of the artists who stand behind the lens.

The exhibition features portraits of such iconic photographers as Norman Parkinson, Melvin Sokolsky & Erwin Blumenfeld, while acknowledging some of the industry’s most new-to-nubile about the scene. Enhanced with  a tie-in text titled “What makes a Photographer Sexy?” written by NYC gallirist, Steven Kasher, along with the curatorial assistance of NYC/Hamptons’ gallerist, Karen Boltax, ‘The Reflected Eye’ makes fresh observation how these spotlighted photographers honestly–  exuberantly, sometimes humorously and even provocatively, present themselves before the camera.

Images from the Private Reception (which was held on May 19th) can be seen here, as well as links to official photographic coverage by BFA. ‘The Reflected Eye‘ is open to the public May 20th to June 30th on Wednesdays to Saturdays from 11am to 4pm at Dune Studios on 121 Varick Street, 7th Floor.

‘The Reflected Eye’ exhibition includes work from:  Rock-n-roll photographer Bob Gruen (photographer behind such legendary images of John Lennon, David Bowie, Mick Jagger & more); classic fashion, beauty photographer of VOGUE magazine, Arthur Elgort; Douglas Kirkland (the photographic eye behind such alluring & memorable images of Marilyn Monroe); and more..

About This Photo Session      Images of Danica Barboza featured in the modeling session, were ‘subduedly’ taken by experimental filmmaker, Ross McLaren in Williamsburg (NYC).

 These images of DB were taken the same day the Barboza’s later attended the private reception of TOTEM Creative’s exhibition, ‘The Reflected Eye.’

About the photographer:

Ross McLaren (currently based in NYC) is the infamous founder of one of Canada’s first theaters for experimental film, “The Funnel.” The 2010 Spotlight Artist of the IF (Images Festival)  Ross McLaren films include the seminal documentary-punk classic Crash ‘N’ Burn (1977); Dance of the Sacred Foundation Application (featuring friend and collaborator Jack Smith),

Sex Without Glasses (1983);  and Summer Camp (1978) the Ann Arbor Film Festival award-winning film; etc.  (…Mentioned films have screened internationally, at the National Gallery of Canada, MOMA, NYC’s Anthology, and etc. abroad)
